Interviews

Meeting a potential candidate face to face can be a good way of assessing their skills and if they are suitable to represent the party. However, party members from protected groups tell us that assessment interviews can create barriers to reaching selection and be a negative experience. For example, women, disabled people, ethnic minority and LGBTI people may encounter assumptions about what makes a successful politician, inappropriate questions or an inaccessible interview location. These barriers screen out potential candidates who may be well qualified and reduce diversity of those making it through to the next stage.
